Here at ProOrca, we've been making French drumsticks since 1984. Made of real wood. And we've seen drummers come and go, from beginners to festival-goers. So when people ask us, "I'm starting out on drums, should I get an electronic or an acoustic?" ... we answer with experience. Not with technical specifications.
Because this choice can change everything. Your motivation. Your comfort. Your progress. And even... your enjoyment of playing. So we'll tell you everything, no fuss. Just you and your sticks.
Electronic drum kit: practical, discreet… but a little less lively
Do you live in an apartment? Are your walls made of cardboard? Do you dream of playing every night without being hated by your neighbors? Electronic drums clearly have a card to play.
It doesn't take up too much space, doesn't make (too much) noise, and with a good pair of headphones, you can work out at 11 p.m. without feeling guilty. The module offers a range of sounds to explore, from smooth jazz to heavy, pounding dubstep. And on the budget side, there are some very good entry-level models.
But don't expect miracles in terms of feel. Even with mesh heads, the rebound doesn't have the texture of a real head. The sound is in the ears, not in the air. You play... but it's not the great love story yet.
It's a great option for learning the basics, practicing rudiments, or composing in silence. But it's not the instrument that will thrill you. Keep that in mind.
Acoustic drums: wood, skins, real sound
Here, we enter the world of the raw. The organic. The "I hit, it resonates, and I feel the air vibrate."
Playing an acoustic drum kit is like experiencing the music physically. Every stroke is different. Every nuance has meaning. You hear your mistakes, your progress, your grooves. In short, it's alive.
Sure, it's more cumbersome, and a lot noisier. But if you have a dedicated room, a garage, a rehearsal space, or great neighbors... the acoustics are a blast. In a good way.
It's also the benchmark for live performances, studio performances, and band rehearsals. And it teaches you how to play true . Not perfect. But alive.
And what about drumsticks? They're YOUR connection to the drums.
Whether you're playing a pad or a hand-stretched drumhead, your sticks remain the same. They're what translate your gesture into groove. They're what make the wood vibrate, or trigger a sample. And they have to suit you. Obviously, you won't always choose the same sticks depending on whether you're playing an acoustic or electronic drum kit. Why? Because an acoustic drum kit often requires more power and projection, while an electronic one, which is more sensitive, responds better to lighter, more precise sticks .
Not to your teacher. Not to your favorite drummer. To you.
At ProOrca, we say it loud and clear: the right model is the one that feels good to your hands!

What to remember
-
Electronic drums are discreet, practical, and versatile. But a little less lively.
-
Acoustic drums are louder, but more intense, more real, more free.
-
The choice depends on your context , but above all on your desire to play every day.
-
Your drumsticks make all the difference : listen to your feelings.
-
And if you can't find the shoe that fits you , our configurator is there for that .
You're not born a drummer. You become one. One snare hit after another. An imperfect groove, then a little cleaner. Then one day, it's there, it rocks.
And it always starts with a pair of drumsticks. Well chosen. Well felt. Well made. Whether you prefer pad or skin, plastic or wood, you've come to the right place.
